CFGP is pleased that the Community Center at Visitation has been awarded their second CFGP grant! The Center received $7,500 on March 21st for support of their several programs offered to the Kensington community.
Since their last grant award, the Community Center has been working to expand their programs to reach not only the Kensington community, but all of Philadelphia. Today, the Center has grown their youth sports program to over 25 student participants, and is adding both a boys’ soccer and girls’ volleyball clinic. The Community Center also offers classes in English as a Second Language for adults, a food pantry that servers over 100 families per week, weekly bingo games and exercise classes for seniors.
In the coming months, the Community Center at Visitation is hoping to start a program focused on women’s health. The Center’s growing interest in women’s healthcare is a direct result of the increase in human trafficking that has plagued the streets of Kensington. Currently, the Center is in contact with near-by hospitals and health clinics that can provide basic healthcare to women free of charge.
